Ms. Jones

My name is Ms. Renee Jones. This is my 22nd year teaching. I have taught grades K-2 including some combo classes. I have my master’s in teaching, with a specialization in Reading. I also have received my certification for the National Board for teaching standards. The National Board is an assessment to certify experienced teachers as outstanding practitioners in teaching. The primary purpose of this assessment is to enhance student learning and encourage experience in teaching.

I have a beautiful daughter named Kylie who is 13 years old and starting 8th grade at Eastlake Middle and my precious 10 and ½ year old son Colin who is at Salt Creek and entering the 5th grade.

I am a firm believer in the idea that schools must help the parent raise the child. With this belief in mind, I hope to work very closely with you this year to see that your child gets the most out of our year together as he or she possibly can. I know that this year is just one of many that your child will spend in school, but I strongly feel that the possibilities for intellectual, social, and personal growth are tremendous.

You will be amazed at how much your child will continue to grow this year. This year, your child will build on the foundational skills learned in Kindergarten and 1st grade and become even more proficient readers and writers in and out of the technology world!!

I have high expectations for my students. The work we do will be challenging, however, I will structure our assignments so that if the students put forth the effort, they will be successful. Because of this, parents as well as children may have some apprehensions about what will happen. It is extremely important that we all build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child’s self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our 2nd grade class.

I am committed to creating an upbeat, productive classroom environment. The students will play an active role in their learning. Not only will much of the learning be hands-on, but also the students will have a large voice in determining what this work will actually be. Every attempt will be made to make this work meaningful to the students.
